Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I claim a Medicare Rebate?

You can claim a Medicare Rebate for your Therapy Sessions if you have a referral from a GP.

Unfortunately, Medicare does not provide rebates for assessments for those over 25 years of age, even if you have a referral from a GP/Specialist. There has been much advocacy work with Medicare focused on making assessments more accessible and affordable. We look forward to seeing change in this area.

Please contact us if you are under 25 and have a referral from a psychiatrist or a paediatrician, as you are entitled to a rebate.

  • Do I need a referral?

We welcome referrals and want you to feel supported by working with your other health professionals such as GPs, Psychiatrists and Paediatricians, if you would like us to.

    For Therapy:

If you would like to claim a Medicare Rebate you will need a referral l from a GP and a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). You can claim a rebate on up to 10 sessions per year.

You can also self-refer, a GP Referral is not a requirement for you to attend therapy appointments.

    For Assessments:

You don’t need a referral. Of course we welcome referrals from GPs, however you do not need a referral from a GP for an assessment. You can self-refer, which means you can book yourself in for an assessment.

If you are under 25 years of age, and have a referral from your psychiatrist or paediatrician, and would like to claim the Medicare rebate, please email us for more information about your fees and the process - hello@kinunitypsychology.com.au

For both Therapy & Assessments: All Fees must be paid in full, Medicare Claims will be processed immediately after your appointment so that you receive your rebates as quickly as possible.

  • What are your Fees?

In the spirit of transparency, our fees are available on our website, you can view them on Our Services Page where you will also find information about our assessments.

  • Can you prescribe ADHD Medication?

You will need to engage with a Psychiatrist to prescribe medication for ADHD. We recommend seeking out a Neurodiversity Affirming Psychiatrist who works with adults. Some Psychiatrists will accept a Psychologist's report and diagnosis of ADHD, and some will decide to undertake their own assessments - these decisions are made at the discretion of the Psychiatrist, and are independent of Kinunity Psychology.

You’ll need a referral from your GP for a Psychiatrist - please note, there are significant wait times for Psychiatrist appointments, we recommend our clients discuss further with your GP to decide your best assessment pathway.

After diagnosis, Psychologists can provide non-pharmacological support for ADHD traits and differences. We would love to provide therapeutic support and look forward to talking with you.

  • Can I access NDIS funding?

We want our clients to be able to make informed decisions about their health information. If you would like to access funding from the NDIS we recommend seeking clarification of the NDIS processes, requirements for evidence and eligibility directly from the NDIS, before booking an appointment with us.

As NDIS applications are specific to each individual, Kinunity Psychology can not provide information about NDIS processes, requirements and/or your eligibility, nor do we take responsibility for decisions made by the NDIS.

  • I have Private Health Insurance, can I make a claim?

Assessments and Therapy may be covered under your private health insurance, we encourage you to contact your provider to determine your eligibility before booking your appointment. It is important to distinguish that we will be meeting for Assessment and not therapy, if applicable.

You can not claim a Medicare Rebate and through your Private Health Fund at the same time.

Please note you will need to pay the full assessment fee to Kinunity Psychology, and make your private health insurance claim after your assessment, independent of Kinunity Psychology - but we of course will be able to provide the paperwork.
